The rich chemistry of carbon based organic polymers has led to wide range of applications relying on these materials. However, there are also limitations. The main limitations arise from the restricted coordination and redox capabilities of carbon, properties that are the very core of the chemistry of coordination complexes. The primary goal of this project is to combine the best features of both types of compounds in functional metallopolymeric hybrid materials. The aim is to prepare active catalysts for biodiesel production and for processes utilizing CO2 as raw material. Another target functionality is luminescence. The most important applications for luminescent materials can be found in the field of display and sensor technology. Applicability of metallopolymers as 3D printing materials will also be screened. Success in this field would open up possibilities for example to direct printing of catalytic materials.
