Project description
Large-scale transformations, such as we are witnessing during the current period of intensified globalisation, carry the potential to change individuals’ everyday experiences of wellbeing by introducing shifts in diets, lifestyle and social relations in the context of larger economic and political change. This project examines the relationship between wellbeing and social change through a focus on body, personhood and care in post-Soviet Cuba, a country which is currently undergoing rapid political, economic and social change. Wellbeing is understood as an embodied experience that includes individual health, ideas of personhood and how people care for each other. The objective is to create new information on how structural developments shape ordinary people’s experiences of wellbeing. This research integrates an in-depth ethnographic perspective that focuses on the experiences of ordinary people with a detailed comparative attention to the politics and economics of global health.
