Project description
Lymphatic vasculature network is a dense tree-like structure that extends it branches all over our body. The density of the network is essential for the execution of its tasks: delivery of tissue fluid and macromolecules, including metabolic waste products, to the blood circulation, and induction of an adaptive immune response upon inflammation. Knowledge on the mechanisms that regulate the growth and structure of the lymphatic vessels should benefit clinical strategies aiming at the tuning of the network capacity to help patients suffering from primary (inherited) or secondary (most commonly surgery associated) tissue swelling, or e.g. transplant rejection. A combination of cutting edge mouse genetic, imaging and computational topology tools is used to characterize the structure of the lymphatic network and the cell proliferation mechanisms sculpting the network.
