Project description
Peptides have several advantages over small molecular weight drug molecules. However, the successful administration of peptides is hindered by their typical pharmacokinetic properties and they cannot typically be administered per orally. Currently, subcutaneous administration route is the most applied, cost-effective and suitable for every-day use by the patient. However, many of the peptide products require daily or multiple daily injections and use of high doses accompanied with fluctuating plasma concentrations. Therefore there is a need for novel tools for peptide delivery to control the release, decrease the administration frequency and increase patient compliance. This research project will develop nanotechnology assisted controlled delivery system for peptides. The aim is to achieve subcutaneous delivery system for weekly administration that enables simultaneous dosing of several peptide drugs.
