Project description
MicroRNAs (miRNA, miR) are non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression by hindering translation. Their expression has been connected to the development of cardiovascular diseases, but large scale analysis of individuals serum miRNA profiles are still missing. As cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in the world, discovery of miRNA with a diagnostic significance, would have great significance. The aim of this study is for the first time analyze the stability of individual’s serum miRNA profile (during 30 years) and reflect it to the risk factors and metabolic indicators of future CVD. We will also investigate the similarity of the miRNA profiles of parents and their children. Our research setting will also enable us to compare the parents childhood/adolescence serum miRNA profile (1986) to their offspring’s current (childhood/adolescence) serum miRNA profile, revealing the effects of changing environmental factors to the miRNA profiles conveying the risk of CVDs.
