Project description
According to the programming hypothesis, exposure to environmental adversities in the prenatal life may permanently alter the offspring's physiological feedback systems in ways that increases vulnerability to mental and physical disorders later in life. One such exposure is maternal Early Life Stress (ELS). This has been the focus of this project. We have studied the transgenerational transmission of ELS from the mother to her child. We have also collected research material that will allow us to identify the biological embedding of this prenatal ELS exposure. This work has been carried out in international reseach collaboration in the MecTransGen-consortia, which includes researchers from Germany, Canada and USA.
