Project description
Dispersal is a fundamental process in all taxa but still poorly understood. This project will use bird populations as study objects to examine dispersal decisions and their consequences. I will first examine the importance of various causes of dispersal, including the heritable component and different aspects of the environment. Secondly, I will examine cost-benefit relationships of dispersal from previously unconsidered viewpoints. Finally, I will model the effects of dispersal on population dynamics by considering the possible heterogeneity in demographic parameters between dispersing and site faithful individuals.
