Project description
We set out to study effects of analytical and holistic cognitive styles, within cultures, on processing of stimuli during different tasks. In combined behavioral and psychophysiological studies, we observed that persons with analytic cognitive styles thrived in competitive task conditions and persons with holistic cognitive styles thrived in cooperative task conditions. In neuroimaging studies it was observed that subjects with holistic cognitive style watch movie clips more uniformly given specific viewing tasks than analytical subjects who are more idiosyncratic. As an additional result from this project, we observed that brains of experimental subjects view refusal of organ donation between sisters very differently when the subjects believe the sisters are genetic vs. adopted, despite self-reports to contrary.
