Project description
One of the technologies that has the potential to address the so-called 1000x mobile data challenge is cognitive radio (CR). Using the CR technology a wireless network entity is able to adapt intelligently to the environment through observation, exploration and learning. In this project, we developed a unified framework to address several important issues related to the coexistence of multiple cognitive small cell base stations (SCBSs): In particular we designed efficient and fair spectrum sharing policies for distributed small cells operating under heterogeneous scenarios. We considered network models where CR systems with imperfect observations of their environment, and also imperfect memory (due to limitations in computational capabilities) seek to maximize their own usage of a resource. The research personnel involved in the project have already published some of their results in several IEEE journals and conferences, and some other results are currently under review.
