Project description
Mind, Image, Picture -project (MIPI) aims to understand the image and its function in the human mind. The image is the basic entity through which the visual world exposes itself for the human mind and connects it to the forms of communication and interaction. Therefore, in order to understand how the human mind works in relation to the visual, we need to analyse what the image actually is. In short: we try to understand how pictures become meaningful for the observer. This is the main objective of MIPI. According to the common view, the image has two interrelated meanings: the material image (e.g. photograph) and the mental image (representation in the human mind). In order to understand the human mind from the visual point of view, we propose a third definition: the image as a visual perceiving process. In our project, we combine these three approaches by conducting experiments to understand how the meaning appears in the visual perceiving process.
