Project description
The main objective of this project is development of new materials and technologies for light amplification. Project goal is an investigation of light amplification by means of novel materials and waveguiding structures, in which an activated core is being formed by a non-equilibrium plasma chemical deposition. The essential feature of plasma chemistry is that it allows building up dense and extremely transparent optical materials by means of immediate deposition of molecules. Avoiding the liquid phase during material synthesis process prevents from rare-earth oxides clusters formation at a nanometre scale, which is typically caused by limited mutual solubility of different oxides. Absence of clusters provides a unique opportunity for heavy doping of the host material by various rare earth activators. Investigation of such unfused amorphous silica-based oxides heavily doped by rare-earth activators is a focus of fundamental study.
