Project description
The project aims to develop programmable materials based on proteins dependence on electric field. The aim is to build devices, which are simultaneously capable to control the characteristics of the molecules, and to measure the changes in protein function. This makes it possible to use the same device as a sensor and an actuator. The research will be carried out in single-molecule resolution to control individual biomolecules, the substrates used in the devices being based on carbon nanostructures. The research utilizes recombinant-DNA technology to manufacture tailored proteins, optical microscopy and AFM, as well as molecular simulations and nanolithographical methods. The project will yield novel tools for diagnostic and electronic devices based on biomolecular function, and it is expected that the results will allow one to utilize the new knowledge to design tools for controlled cellular and tissue engineering.
