Project description
Multiferroics are already widely recognized as strong candidates for main components of future electronic/optoelectronic devices and important part of biotechnology. PROPER Consortium demonstrates precise control, in a programmable manner, of the stress-driven morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) effect in nano-scale volume of technologically important Bi-FeO3-PbTiO3 solid solution. This groundbreaking research considers nanoscale multiferroic volume as a “phase-changing material”. Ion-beam downsizing of the multiferroic materials to nanoscale will bridge basic research to new technologically significant applications. Besides scientific merits, the project has strong impact on training of young researchers. Consortium links the main partners Aalto Univ. (Prof. R. Nowak) and Helsinki Univ. (Prof. J. Räisänen) to the associate partners: Nagoya Univ. in Japan (Prof. W. Sakamoto) and Hysitron Central Laboratories, Hysitron Inc., Minneapolis in USA (Dr. T. Wyrobek).
