Project description
The project produced extremely sensitive and selective sensor molecules which, upon reaction with metal cations, formed gels and other functional chemical systems in water. These systems were used as extremely sensitive pyrophosphate detection agents. Within the project e.g. the world's most sensitive sensor molecule for detection of biologically very relevant pyrophosphate at ultra low concentrations. Also a gelling system, which is formed selectively when reacting only with mercury cations. The project was very successful, and advanced and strengthened the scientific competitiveness and top research both in Finland, especially in the field of molecular nanoscience.
