Project description
My postdoctoral project aimed understanding and producing new information about the role of biotic and environmental contingencies of climate change impacts and the interactive effects of multiple global changes on plant communities. Some of the key findings from my project are: (1) plant functional traits are important in mediating global change effects on plant community diversity and productivity, (2) herbivory can prevent plants from responding to climate warming and differently impacts lowland and tundra plants, and (3) plant competition and multiple resource limitation are important forces governing climate change effects on individual plants and plant communities. These results highlight the critical role of biotic ecosystems components (competition, plant traits, herbivory) in modulating global change impacts, and are essential in understanding and predicting the effects of human-caused changes in environmental conditions on natural communities and ecosystems.
