Project description
The Laica project fills a gap in existing research on climate policy by focusing on citizens as active players in climate policy implementation. The research focused on detached houses which are a major site of energy consumption in Finland. The project developed new methodology for searching innovative users of new tecnologies, finding over 200 innovations by Finnish consumers in heat pumps, pellet burming systems, solar collectors and solar photovoltaic systems. A second area of interest for the project has been to cover sources of and stimuli for low-carbon innovations in everyday life, including diverse constraints such as crises and w้ather events, and ownership changes. Thirdly, project developed a new version of the tool EKOREM to analyse the energy use and greenhouse gas emissions of residential buildings. The tool was used to analyse the impacts of innovations in various scales. Finally, local interventions was organized to test the results of the project.
