Project description
The central aim of the MAVERIC project was to map quantitative measures of vulnerability to climate change at municipality scale across Finland. The project focused on three case studies: the agricultural sector, elderly people and winter recreation. The first two case studies extend work carried out in the CARAVAN project (SA - decision: 129195) by providing more in-depth analysis for Finland. The third introduced a new issue, specifically climate change vulnerability of cross country and downhill skiing. Substantive progress was achieved on five topics: (i) indicator development, (ii) probabilistic methods of uncertainty representation (for climate and population), (iii) scenario development (for future adaptive capacity), (iv) impact modelling (of cereal yield and heat-related mortality), and (v) survey-based behavioural analysis (skiing). An interactive web-based mapping tool has been developed and will be made public during 2013 at: http://www.iav-mapping.net/MAVERIC/MAVERIC.html
