Project description
The objective was to create authentic auralization with physically-based room acoustics modeling methods. However, the focus was changed on the development of novel objective and subjective room acoustics parameters. Such parameters are needed when the simulation results are evaluated. Current objective parameters do not perfectly correlate with the subjective opinions of listeners, thus it is important to develop novel criteria for good concert hall acoustics. Subjective assessment of concert hall acoustics was performed with sensory evaluation methods, which are developed in wine and food industry. Such methods could reveal the perceptual descriptors that are underlying the preference judgments of the assessors. The results of the project are widely applicable in the academia, but also in practical work of acoustic consultants. The developed recording, analysis and listening test methods will raise the design and evaluation of concert hall acoustics to a new level all over the world.
